In July, Congress passed of a new transportation authorization bill (Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century, or MAP-21) that effectively cut federal funds for walking, bicycling and Safe Routes to School–but we have a chance to save active transportation funds in California!

Please join the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, TransForm, California Bicycle Coalition, California WALKS, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and Transportation for America and sign-on to our statement to save walking, bicycling, and Safe Routes to School funds in California by Monday, August 20 at 3 PM PT:

Sign On Now to Save Walking, Bicycling, and Safe Routes to School Funding in California!

Our sign-on letter urges the the State Legislature and the Administration (Caltrans, Business Transportation and Housing and the Governor’s office) to maintain federal funds for active transportation programs (Safe Routes to School, Transportation Enhancements and Recreational Trails) at FY 2012 levels.

We simply cannot afford to have active transportation investments compromised while walking and bicycling still account for 27% of fatalities in the state of California. Pedestrians and bicyclists represent 15% of all trips in California, and we need our fair share for safety!

You can help by having your organization sign-on to this sign-on statement by August 20 at 3 PM.
